| ATTORNEY PAYS FOR
DUI ACCIDENT |
A public defender pleaded no contest to a strike felony Friday, admitting to a drunken driving accident that seriously injured an Atascadero man.
"Attorney To Serve Six Months" A judge sentenced Luis Anthony Lucero, 47, of Los Osos to 180 days for his role in a drunken driving accident that seriously hurt an Atascadero man last January.
While attorneys are expected to fight for their clients, one legal battle got out of hand Tuesday when lawyers scuffled outside a San Luis Obispo County courtroom.
"Lawyer Faces At Least $400,000.00 In Damages" A jury Tuesday awarded $400,100 in damages to an Atascadero man severely injured in a head-on car wreck last year and will assess additional punitive damages as early as today.
A jury had already awarded Randy Rutherford, 51, of Atascadero just more than $400,000 for general damages in the case. But they also agreed by a 9-3 vote that the defendant, Anthony Lucero, 48, of Los Osos should also pay punitive damages, saying he acted with malice when he entered his car while intoxicated in January of 2000.
